Last week, we spent our time listening to the very personal story from my best friend and former college roommate, the Rev. Wes Mullins. Wes is the new Executive Director of Capital City Pride in the Greater Des Moines Area. Click on the audio link below to hear the honest conversation from Wes, where he lays bear his journey as a gay man growing up in church and becoming a minister, in the midst of a seminary and church tradition that did not welcome him. After a lot of serious struggle with scripture and his own faith, he was unwilling to give up on God and God’s call on his life. Wes’ story opens our eyes to the way our theology and church practices can greatly harm, and yet how God can work in spite of the church’s failures. It also shows the importance of relationships, and how a friendship between Wes and me changed us both, and how God’s call on each of our lives was shaped by and through this friendship. Please take an hour and listen to this important and engaging conversation.
