Prayer of Service:
(Feel free to say each line and have your child repeat what you say or say it as you pray together.)
Dear God,
My hands are small but I can help.
My legs aren’t long but I can run an errand for someone who is old or sick.
My voice isn’t as loud as others but I can sing a song to make someone happy.
Help me God to be useful to my parents and to others.
Amen.

We Three Kings
Hymn Background:
This is considered a distinctive and unique carol because of its lilting rhythm and solemn minor key (makes it sound more reflective, not as happy). It is based on an Aeolian mode (google it if you want more info) dating from 1857.
The carol was composed by American clergyman and hymnodist, John Henry Hopkins Jr. It was originally created for use in an elaborate Nativity drama that he was staging.
It’s intended as an Epiphany carol, meaning it’s technically meant to be sung towards the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas (Epiphany is January 6, 2021). But with the great melody and message of hope, this popular carol is sung throughout the entire Christmas season.
The carol tells the story of Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection. The melody alternates between regal minor (each of the Wise Men announce what gifts they’re presenting to the son of God) and a major chorus which joyfully proclaims the beauty of the star that guides the travelers to the manger.
LYRICS:
We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar;
Field and fountain, moor and mountain following yonder star.
Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light, star with royal beauty bright;
Westward leading, still proceeding. Guide us to thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain. Gold I bring to crown Him again.
King forever ceasing never, over us all to reign.
Refrain
Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising voices raising. Worshiping God on high.
Refrain
Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying. Sealed in the stone cold tomb.
Refrain
Glorious now behold Him arise. Christ and God and sacrifice.
Alleluia, Alleluia. Sounds through the eart and skies.
Refrain
Joy to the World
LYRICS
Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room. And heaven and nature sing.
And heaven and nature sing. And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.
Joy to the world the Savior reigns! Let all their songs employ.
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy. Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
He rules the world with truth and grace. And makes the nations prove
the glories of His righteousness; And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love; And wonders, wonders of His love.
